Now this is where things get a little hazy. Since Washington State passed initiative I 502 last month, their residents over the age of 21, can legally smoke weed in the privacy of their own homes, starting last Thursday.

The bars owner – Schnarr, 62, notes that this action is not based on the love of the marijuana plant-claiming that he hasn’t smoked weed since he was a G.I. doing the government’s bidding in some godforsaken jungle in middle of Southeast Asia in the 1970s. Instead, he’s looking to fire up new revenue streams with the recently legalized marijuana patrons.


“I stay up at night,” he noted, sounding worried. “I’m about to lose my business. So I’ve got to figure out some way to get people in here.”

Frankie’s Sports Bar & Grill, notoriously waged and eventually won an important conflict with local and state officials over Washington’s 2006 – incredibly unpopular smoking ban.

Schnarr appears to be the first of hopefully many restaurants and / or bar owners willing to stand up, and test the recently broadened limits on recreational marijuana use.

The question before us… is he violating the law” Frank’s ahead of the curve on (allowing marijuana use),” says Shawn Newman, Schnarr’s attorney.

“A lot of other taverns, bars and restaurants would like to do this, but they didn’t have enough chutzpah to fight the smoking ban so they’re locked into non-smoking operations.”

While the recent Federal inaction has everyone sitting on the edge of their seat, the lack of communication between the feds and the state, tends to make state and local officials appear uncertain. Should they be privy to any information, regarding future federal action, their remaining silent?

“Marijuana remains illegal under federal law,” noted the US attorneys spokesperson Emily Langlie in Office in the Seattle. “I can’t tell you whether what Frankie’s Sports Bar & Grill is trying to do is legal or not.”

Olympia’s city attorney Tom Morrill proclaimed,: “We’re looking into it. There are a lot of changes in state law right now. That’s all I can say.

Chris Sapp, 28, a hard working local mechanic and longtime patron of Frankie’s, stated being able to smoke weed at the bar makes him feel as though he’s on vacation in Amsterdam.

“If I wasn’t a friend of Frankie’s already — I’d be one now because you can smoke come here and smoke weed and freely,” he said after taking a pull from a small pipe. “That’s how it should be. We shouldn’t have to hide weed.”"

Washington states – Liquor Control Board PR person Mikhail Carpenter, stated that new powers of the LCB allows for them to create rules and regulations for overseeing the state’s planned administration for all marijuana cultivation, processing and sale of pot, is correspondingly vague.
