How To Make Marijuana ButterClarified Marijuana Butter RecipeNOTE: If you use Cannabis bud you can get away with 1 oz Cannabis bud to 2 pounds of butter, using trim would be about 1 to 1.5 oz of trim to 1 oz of butter. Cannabis leaf has a lower THC content, a good ratio would be about 2 oz of leaf to 1 lb of butter. Your Cannabis butter potency will depend on the strain, maturity and quality of your marijuana bud, trim or leaf that you use. Keeping notes on what strain was used and which part of the Cannabis plant was used will be helpful for you. Did you get better results with an Indica strain or a Sativa, whatever notes that will help you modify or repeat your results next time. Clean the Cannabis by removing any large stems Using a coffee grinder, food processor or VitaMix aim for a coarse grind rather than a powder which will make straining difficult. Clarify the butter to remove excess moisture. A crock pot, on low, works fine. Heat the butter until the side of the crock feels uncomfortable to your touch. Skim off the foam. Allow butter to cool completely then repeat the process of reheating & skimming off the foam. Add the Marijuana and bring to a simmer, continue to simmer, stirring periodically for about 1-2 hours. Cool the Cannabis butter for about 8 hours. In order to achieve a higher potency, repeat the heating/skimming process 2 more times, your Marijuana butter will become thicker. While the butter is still warm strain through a fine mesh into a glass jar, pressing the butter out of the Cannabis into the glass jar. Some people prefer to leave the Cannabis in the butter, in which case they will have ground the Cannabis beyond the coarse stage. Marijuana Butter Recipe Using WaterThis method simmers the Cannabis in water and retains the butter cream that was strained off in the first method which clarified the butter first. Fill a large pot about half full of water, the amount doesn't matter, Marijuana's THC chemicals can only be extracted in alcohol or fat, they will not adhere to the water. No need to grind unless you intend to keep the Cannabis in the finished product. However a crushing or very rough grinding will produce more Cannabis surface space and thus provide more area to be extracted from. You can use stems or whole leaves too. Use the same ratios of Cannabis to butter as noted in the first recipe. If you prefer more potent butter increase the Cannabis, if you prefer it more mild, then reduce the Cannabis. Add Marijuana to the pot of water, bring to a boil and simmer for about 1 hour. Add the butter and slowly bring the water back to a simmer, stirring gently. Simmer for an hour or longer, remove from heat and allow to cool. Repeat the process twice more for the most potent butter. Each heating helps extract more THC+. You can do this in 1 day or over a 2 day period. While the water is still hot, strain the water with the Marijuana herb into a pot large enough to hold it. Using Cheesecloth to strain through will help retain the extracted Marijuana. Pour a couple cups of boiling water over the twisted closed cheesecloth and squeeze or press with a spoon to help squeeze out the water. Discard the herb into your compost pile. Pour the liquid into a pot and refrigerate for about 24 hours. The butter will become hard and be on top of the water. After 24 hours or longer in the refrigerator remove the water from underneth the Cannabis Butter. Cut a chunk of Marijuana butter out of the container, pour off the water. What's left is the hard, beautiful green Marijuana Butter without any retained herb. If you finely ground the herb, and didn't strain, you will find it just beneath the butter surface. Melt your finished Marijuana butter and store in glass jars to be used as needed.
